Take back control of your back
Low back pain is one of the most common reasons Australians see a health professional, and for many people it keeps coming back. The Better Back program is designed for people who are tired of short-term fixes. It combines a thorough assessment, clear education and a progressive exercise plan so you can understand your back, reduce pain and move with confidence again.
Who is it for?
- People with low back pain that has lasted more than a few weeks
- People whose back pain keeps flaring up
- People who have become wary of bending, lifting or exercising because of their back
- People wanting to return to work, sport or everyday activities after a back injury
What the program includes
- A comprehensive initial assessment with one of our physiotherapists, including screening for anything that needs medical review
- Education about how backs work, why pain persists, and what actually helps, based on current evidence
- An individualised exercise plan to build strength, mobility and endurance, progressed as you improve
- Supervised sessions in our rehabilitation gym, with options for clinical Pilates and hydrotherapy
- A home program you can keep using long after the program ends
- Progress measures at the start and end, so you can see how far you have come
Why exercise and education?
Australian and international guidelines recommend staying active, education and exercise therapy as core treatments for persistent low back pain. Passive treatments can help settle pain in the short term, but long-term results come from building a back that is strong, capable and less sensitive.
Getting started
No referral is needed. Book an initial assessment and your physiotherapist will tailor the program to your goals. Rebates may be available through private health insurance, and the program can also be delivered under WorkCover, CTP, DVA or a GP chronic condition management plan where eligible.
